Today is Pentecost
Which means that though Jesus is seated at the right hand of His Father
He is also with us.
It means that :
though you may have been hurt
now you are comforted
though you may have been rejected
now you are loved
though you may be weak and sinful and messed-up
in Him
you are strong and forgiven and utterly blameless
you are helped in your weakness
you are reminded you belong
though you might not know the way forward: or even how to live in the present
you have a Counsellor, a Guide, a Guarantee of Future Hope
though everything feels out of control or uncertain or frightening
you can know peace and you can trust His lordship
though once you were in chains
now you are set free
though you feel awkward or alone
you are part of a family that will never let you go
though your words dry up and your heart feels cold
you have One who speaks for you and burns brighter than your resolve
though once you were dead
now
you are alive.

I’m sorry you’re not feeling it now: a lot of the time I don’t feel it either. But there’s a truth that’s bigger than our feelings and that’s this:
Romans 8:2-6
A new power is in operation. The Spirit of life in Christ, like a strong wind, has magnificently cleared the air, freeing you from a fated lifetime of brutal tyranny at the hands of sin and death. God went for the jugular when he sent his own Son. He didn’t deal with the problem as something remote and unimportant. In his Son, Jesus, he personally took on the human condition, entered the disordered mess of struggling humanity in order to set it right once and for all. The law code, weakened as it always was by fractured human nature, could never have done that. And now what the law code asked for but we couldn’t deliver is accomplished as we, instead of redoubling our own efforts, simply embrace what the Spirit is doing in us. Those who think they can do it on their own end up obsessed with measuring their own moral muscle but never get around to exercising it in real life. Those who trust God’s action in them find that God’s Spirit is in them – living and breathing God! Obsession with self in these matters is a dead end; attention to God leads us out into the open, into a spacious, free life. (Rom 8:2-6, The Message).
